1.2 The Pathfinder Radar PLUS Display
Whena scanner is connectedand the radarisin Transmit mode, the radar
pictureprovidesa map-likerepresentation ofthearea in whichtheradaris
operating. Typically,your ship’s positionis atthecentreof thedisplay,andits
deadaheadbearingisindicatedbyaverticalheadingline,knownastheShip’s
Heading Marker (SHM).
Theradarpicturecan be viewed withavarietyof fixed orcustomised range
scales.The colorofthe radarreturns(echoes)indicatestheir intensity:the
strongestreturnsareshown inyellowandtheweakerare shown in shadesof
blue.A statusbaratthetopofthe radarimagedisplaysrange,currentheading
andmode indicatorsfor thevariousoptionsyoucanset.
Anexampleradarpictureisshownonthenext page, with exampleradar
returns(echoes)and defaultPathfinderRadarinformation.The Status Bar is
alsoillustrated.
Theradardisplaycan show additionalinformation,dependingonyour
currently selectedoptions,set up selectionsand the dataavailablefromother
equipment.Theexampledisplayson thefollowingpagesshow someof these
features.
Functionsareavailable to control thedisplay as follows:
• Zoomthe Display
• Offset your vesselfrom the centreof the radar picture
Operationofthesefunctionsis describedin Chapter 2.
Pathfinder Radar PLUS Display Options
In additionto thedisplaysetup optionspreviouslydescribed,radarset up
optionsallowyouto customisethe radar imageby selectinghow radarmarks
andElectronicBearingLine(EBL) data are displayed. You can alsospecify
timedtransmit modeandcustomrangescales.
TheScreenPresentation Options,describedin Chapter 2 allow you to switch
rangerings on/offandwaypointdisplay on/off.
Note:Whenyouturnthedisplayoffandonagain,theScreenPresentationset-
tingsare retainedin memory.
